Paloma Varela

Paloma Varela is the Head of the Currency Management Division in the Directorate Banknotes at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, Germany. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the management and distribution of euro banknotes across the Eurozone. Varela has extensive experience in central banking and currency management. Before her current position, she held various roles at the ECB, including working in the Directorate General Cash and Payment Systems. She has also worked at the Banco de España, the central bank of Spain. As the Head of the Currency Management Division, Varela plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient supply of euro banknotes to meet the public's demand. She oversees the coordination of cash distribution, the monitoring of banknote quality, and the implementation of strategies to combat counterfeiting.
