To discuss and explore ideas related to the design and development of virtual worlds, OMI aims to establish a community of artists, makers, developers, and other innovators.

The collaborative efforts of the community serve as inspiration for the Open Metaverse Interoperability Group, which promotes the metaverse as an open and interoperable resource for everyone.
