Year Key Achievements
2015 Etherscan was founded by Matthew Tan in Malaysia. It officially went live in August, right around the Ethereum mainnet launch. By September, it had already rolled out its first Ethereum API services.
2016 Smart contract verification was added, so users could read and confirm the verified contract code.
Support for the ERC-20 token standard was introduced, making it possible to track early ICO activity.
2017 ENS (Ethereum Name Service) lookup support was integrated.
CryptoKitties metadata started appearing on Etherscan, marking its first major step into NFT-related data.
2020 BeaconScan was launched as a separate explorer focused on the Ethereum 2.0 staking layer.
Explorer-as-a-Service (EaaS) was introduced, enabling other EVM networks to create their own explorers.
