Last updated 17 days ago
Blockscout is a free blockchain explorer software that was created specifically for the Web3 ecosystem. It is widely used within the DeFi, Layer 2, EVM, smart contracts, and blockchain analytics spaces. Using Blockscout, people can easily review, explore, check, and engage with the data within blockchains. Blockscout supports more than 1,000 EVM-compatible blockchains, including Layer 1, Layer 2, Layer 3, Optimistic Rollups, and ZK Rollups.
| Year | Achievements |
| 2018 | Launched by POA Network (later became Gnosis) with a grant from the Ethereum Foundation. The goal was simple: solve the centralization risk caused by the lack of a fully open-source explorer for the Ethereum ecosystem. |
| 2019 | Early stable releases went live, and it quickly became the main native explorer for networks like Gnosis Chain (formerly xDai) and Ethereum Classic. It handled real, live network traffic at scale without issues. |
| 2020 | Added multi-file smart contract verification and stronger support for new token standards like ERC-721 and ERC-1155. |
| 2021 | Updated to support Ethereum’s London upgrade with EIP-1559 gas fee tracking. Around the same time, work began on supporting Optimistic and ZK-rollups as Ethereum scaling started shifting to Layer 2. |
| 2022 | It became an independent project with new funding, including a $3M seed round led by 1kx. The frontend also started moving away from the old Elixir template system toward a cleaner, modular React UI (v1). |
| 2023 | Introduced high-performance Rust-based microservices for indexing and data handling. Launched the DApp Marketplace (DAppscout), turning the explorer into something more interactive than just a data viewer. |
| 2024 | Rolled out visualization tools like Sol2UML to make complex transaction flows easier to read. Expanded infrastructure support for modular chains like Arbitrum Orbit, OP Stack, and zkSync. |
| 2025 | Crossed 3,000+ supported networks across mainnets, testnets, and app chains. Launched Autoscout, a 1-click tool that lets developers spin up a full block explorer for custom rollups in under five minutes. |
