CryptoPunks is a non-fungible token collection on the Ethereum blockchain launched in 2017 by Larva Labs, consisting of two creative technologists, Matt Hall and John Watkinson. The project was inspired by the London punk scene, Daft Punk's electronic music, and the cyberpunk movement. The CryptoPunks influenced the modern CryptoArt movement, including the ERC-721 standard for NFTs, and have since been a part of the cryptocurrency and Defi ecosystems on multiple blockchains.   The Cryptopunks are 10K uniquely generated characters, and each one of them can be officially owned by a single person on the Ethereum blockchain. The platform allows individuals to buy, bid on, and offer goods for sale through the marketplace that is embedded in the blockchain. It is commonly credited with beginning the NFT craze of 2021, including early projects such as CryptoKitties, Bored Ape Yacht Club, etc. Because of their exclusivity and rarity, Cryptopunks sell for higher prices on the open market and have been sold via auction houses like Christie’s.
