Adam is credited with inventing Hashcash, which later became integral to the Bitcoin mining process and was initially developed to combat email spam. In 2014, he founded Blockstream, a company dedicated to blockchain technology. Adam was one of the two individuals to whom Satoshi Nakamoto sent an email. The Financial Express in 2016 identified him as a potential Nakamoto.
