Sir Robin St John Knowles CBE is a judge of the High Court of England and Wales, serving in the King's Bench Division since 2014. He was educated at Sir Roger Manwood's School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1982. Before becoming a judge, he had a practice in commercial, financial, company, and insolvency law. He served as Chair of the Commercial Bar Association of England & Wales and of Advocate (the Bar Pro Bono Unit) and the National Pro Bono Centre. He was appointed Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in 1999. He was appointed a High Court Judge in 2014. He was awarded the CBE in 2007 for service to pro bono legal services. In his judicial capacity, Sir Robin Knowles: Sits in the Administrative Court and other King's Bench work, including crime. Is a designated Judge of the Financial List. Has responsibility for the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts.Is a board member of the Financial Markets Law Committee. Chaired the cross-sector MR's Working Group on possession proceedings during the pandemic.Chairs the Litigants in Person Engagement Group (LIPEG) within the HMCTS Reform Programme.
