Robert Nichols is an American association executive,a representative body for all types and sizes of banks, advocating for the $23.7 trillion banking industry in the United States. He is currently the president and CEO of the American Bankers Association. He was born on January 3, 1969, in Camden, New Jersey. He was graduated from George Washington University.
Nichols has led ABA's advocacy efforts, working to ensure that banks of all sizes operate in a policy environment that allows them to best serve their customers and communities. In 2018, Nichols led ABA's successful efforts to win passage of the first major banking bill in nearly a decade. Among other things, the bipartisan legislation modified rules for community banks originally intended for larger institutions.
As president of the Financial Services Forum, He spent most of his time focused on the policy priorities and unique economic value provided by large diversified financial institutions. During Nichols' tenure, the forum also co-chaired Engage China, a coalition of 12 financial trade associations pushing for greater access to Chinese markets for overseas firms and more financial liberalization in Chinese markets.
