3LAU (actual name Justin Blau) began DJing while studying finance at Washington University in St. Louis, and his hobby quickly turned into a passion. He quit out to pursue music full-time, and by 2012, he had recorded an album and toured around the country. 3LAU, now a well-known artist, DJ, and producer, founded the dance music label Blume in 2016, with proceeds going to charity. In its first year, the label raised over $200,000.

His foray into the field of decentralized technology was aided by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, the founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, whom he met at a concert in Mexico and remained friends with. It didn't seem right to me that I couldn't send money directly without via an intermediary.

3LAU, in collaboration with digital-collectibles marketplace Blockparty, issued digital music collectibles as nonfungible tokens in September, in addition to just being an advocate within the crypto industry — and well beyond it. In May, he took part in the crypto community's virtual charity concert "Dance, Donate, Decentralize," which raised over $200,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts. His active involvement in the cryptocurrency business has helped to popularise decentralized technologies beyond the crypto community.

Following the tremendous momentum of the crypto and blockchain industries in 2020, Cointelegraph predicts that the steady pace toward broad acceptance will continue in 2021. While He intends to focus more on his music by releasing new albums and performing live, We expect him to remain a vocal Bitcoin supporter, continue to explore how blockchain technology can be used in music, and continue his charitable efforts, which will only become easier as new technologies emerge.
