Riccardo Spagni (aka "Fluffypony") is a software engineer-turned-entrepreneur who found Bitcoin in early 2011. He has a background in informatics and logistics. He was one of seven people who took over the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero shortly after it was launched in 2014.
He just stepped aside as Monero's principal maintainer to focus on Tari, a decentralized assets system he's developing with a team of researchers, cryptographers, and software engineers.
To further decentralize the Monero Project, Spagni stepped down from his day-to-day role as chief maintainer. "Snipa," another long-time Monero developer, will take over as chief maintainer, with Spagni acting as a backup maintainer as needed. This was the culmination of six years of hard effort on the privacy-preserving coin.
While he is leaving the Monero Core development team, Spagni intends to continue working on Tari, a digital asset protocol that he co-founded that will be secured by the Monero blockchain.
