Emad Aladhal is Director of the Specialist Directorate within the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which includes Financial Crime Market Intervention, Office for Professional Body Anti-Money Laundering Supervision (OPBAS), and Fraud & Financial Crime Policy. He also co-leads the FCA’s three-year strategy commitment to reducing and preventing financial crime, which contributes to the UK’s national Economic Crime Plan and Fraud Strategy. The other specialist areas Emad leads within the Specialist Directorate are Financial Resilience; Client Assets; Resolution & Insolvency; and Technology, Resilience & Cyber. The specialists work with colleagues from across the FCA, and external partners, to bring their expertise to the supervision of c.50,000 FCA-regulated firms and, with OPBAS, professional body supervisors that supervise thousands more professional firms. Before re-joining the FCA in 2017, Emad was a Compliance Director at a top-tier investment bank as EMEA head of Compliance for Corporate Functions and Investment Bank & Private Bank Operations. He also has prior extensive experience as a regulatory consultant (EMEA and US), where he has advised on various aspects of regulation, which included advising on the administration of a failed large investment bank during the last financial crisis.
