ZetaChain is an omnichain Layer 1 blockchain enabling universal cross-chain smart contracts.
ZetaChain is an all-purpose Layer 1 blockchain designed for omnichain interoperability, cross-chain use cases, and artificial intelligence-driven Web3 infrastructure. With the ZetaChain platform, developers have the ability to design universal apps that interact across multiple blockchains, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and others, all from one layer of smart contracts. ZetaChain provides seamless chain-to-chain interaction without having to depend too much on wrapped tokens or bridge technology. This makes it easier for developers to develop applications that work across different blockchains.
| Year | Achievements |
| 2021-2022 | ZetaChain was launched under Meta Protocol, Inc., with a clear goal: to build an omnichain Layer-1 blockchain that supports generic smart contract interoperability across different networks. |
| Rolled out the first ZetaLabs testnet, where users could swap native assets across Goerli, Polygon Mumbai, and Bitcoin Testnet without using wrapped tokens. | |
| 2023 | Expanded its developer ecosystem quickly, bringing in more than 1.8 million testnet users and partnerships with major Web3 platforms like OKX, Bitget Wallet, and XDEFI. |
| Introduced Universal Smart Contracts on the zEVM, making it possible for one deployed smart contract to manage native assets across disconnected external blockchains such as Bitcoin. | |
| 2024 | ZetaChain officially launched the ZetaChain 1.0 Mainnet Beta on February 1, 2024, with native connectivity for Ethereum, Bitcoin, and BNB Chain. |
| Released the native ZETA utility token on leading cryptocurrency exchanges such as Coinbase, OKX, and Bybit. The launch also included early user airdrops and the “XP” ecosystem rewards program. | |
| 2025 | Introduced Lightning upgrade protocol, which shortened block times to 4 seconds from 6 seconds and increased transaction finality speeds by 33%. |
| Updated the Chain Abstraction Framework (CAF) by introducing native Mainnet support for non-EVM chains like Solana and Sui with the ZetaClient multicas upgrade. |
