Company Info

Sigma Prime is a leading blockchain security and research organization that focuses on Ethereum smart contract audits, Web3 cybersecurity, and decentralized system security engineering. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Sydney, Australia, the company is well-known for its competence in Ethereum protocol security, penetration testing, and open-source blockchain infrastructure development. Beyond audits, Sigma Prime contributes significantly to the Ethereum ecosystem by developing and maintaining Lighthouse, a high-performance Ethereum consensus client built in Rust. This makes the company one of the few security firms that is actively developing and securing basic blockchain technology.

Key Features of Sigma Prime:

  • Ethereum smart contract security audits concentrate on deep audits of DeFi, Layer 1/Layer 2 networks, including vulnerabilities, gas concerns, logic faults, and exploit testing.
  • Lighthouse Ethereum Consensus Client is an open-source Ethereum staking client that improves decentralization and runs on a high-performance Rust-based architecture.
  • Advanced blockchain security research includes work on zero-knowledge systems, cryptography, PoS consensus, and layer 2 scaling solutions.
  • Full-stack Web3 security coverage spans smart contracts, NFTs, DeFi, rollups, consensus layers, and blockchain network systems.

Sigma Prime Milestones:

Year Key Achievements
2016 Sigma Prime started in Sydney, Australia. The early work focused on information security auditing and blockchain research.
2019 Sigma Prime received a major grant from the Ethereum Foundation. The funding helped speed up Lighthouse development with a strong focus on performance and security.
2020 Lighthouse became one of the main clients at the launch of the Ethereum Beacon Chain (Eth2 Phase 0) in December.
2022 Lighthouse played an important role in The Merge. It helped users move smoothly to Proof-of-Stake on the Ethereum mainnet.
2023 Support for the Shapella (Shanghai/Capella) upgrade was added. This allowed validator withdrawals for Lighthouse users.
2024 Major updates were released for the Dencun upgrade. It included EIP-4844 (Proto-Danksharding) to help lower Layer 2 transaction costs.
2025 Work continued on the Pectra (Prague/Electra) upgrade. Research expanded into single-slot finality and improvements in peer-to-peer networking.
