2020 PiKNiK is founded in San Diego, California, by Kevin Huynh and Patrick Yu. The goal is to build enterprise-grade gateway infrastructure on decentralized networks like Filecoin and IPFS.
2021
PiKNiK became the first major North American storage provider on Filecoin
The team also hit an early milestone by on-boarding its first petabyte (1 million gigabytes) of verified storage capacity.
2022
The company raised a $2.98 million seed funding round led by Shima Capital. 
Launched the Enterprise Storage Provider Accelerator (ESPA), designed to train and certify institutional data centers joining decentralized storage networks.
2023 PiKNiK partnered with ZPrize to bring in advanced hardware, including early access to NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architectures. This helped speed up zero-knowledge (ZK) proof processing.
2024 It partnered with decentralized computing networks like Nosana, connecting its data center GPU fleet to public marketplaces for machine learning workloads.
2025 PiKNiK grew its total data infrastructure to over 200 petabytes (200 million gigabytes) across multiple US facilities. 
It supports large archival datasets for both public and private institutions, including NASA and the USC Shoah Foundation.
