It was co-founded in 2020 by Patrick O'Shaughnessy, Damian Brychcy, Joe Berg, and Josh Joseph. Their podcasts get over 1 million downloads per month. They are working on launching new podcasts and audio documentaries over the next few months. The name and logo are inspired by Tim Urban's post on the history of human knowledge. Where he referred to the growing tower of human knowledge as the "human colossus". They are building a tower of knowledge where they add units of knowledge every week, block by block. The Colossus—collective knowledge—is what makes humans distinct as a species. It is the root of progress, and it will be a constant reminder to add blocks to the tower so that the user gets satisfied and enhances their knowledge.
