Electronic Transactions Association is the top trade organization for the payments sector, representing more than 500 global businesses that provide goods and services for electronic transaction processing. The ETA's mission is to lead through lobbying, education, and information sharing to influence, monitor, and develop the payments industry. Independent sales organizations (ISOs), payments networks, financial institutions, transaction processors, mobile payment goods and services, payments technologies, software providers (ISV), and hardware suppliers are all included in ETA's membership, which covers the entire payments industry. Less than 20 members of the sector gathered to form one voice in 1990 when the association was founded as the Bankcard Services Association.
