The company was established in 2014 by three people: Daniel Vogel, Ben Peters, and Pablo González. Bitso is headquartered in Mexico City. Currently, it is considered one of the most successful fintech organizations, helping thousands of businesses and millions of individuals around Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and elsewhere. Year Key Achievements
2014 Established by Ben Peters and Pablo Gonzalez. Daniel Vogel joins as CEO in the subsequent years. The platform begins to operate as an online order-book exchange, allowing users to trade Bitcoin (BTC) for Mexican pesos (MXN).
2016 The platform grows rapidly to reach 20,000 active users. It introduces the first crypto trading professional interface and implements security measures, which include enterprise-grade protection provided by Cloudflare.
2021 Raised $250 million in a Series C funding round by Tiger Global and Coatue. Such valuation made Bitso the first crypto unicorn in Latin America.
2023 Launched the Bitso Card supported by Mastercard (the Bitso Card Program was shut down in May 2025). The card enables spending digital assets and stablecoins at retail stores.
2024 Managed approximately 10% of US-to-Mexico remittances, amounting to more than $7 billion. Bitso utilized liquidity solutions and stablecoins from Ripple for quick B2B settlements.
2025 Bitso grew to 10 million+ customers and extended Bitso Business. Bitso developed MXNB and BRL1, which are stablecoins pegged to the Mexican Peso and Brazilian Real, respectively.
