A social media platform built on the blockchain called BitClout is open source. Users of the platform can publish brief texts and images, give posts they particularly appreciate money by clicking a diamond icon, purchase and sell "creator coins" (personalized tokens whose value is based on users' reputations), and create and sell non-fungible tickets.
It is a proof of concept network that was founded by Nader al-Naji in 2021 and is headquartered in Osaka. The company has raised a total of $200 million in funding over two rounds, with the most recent round taking place on September 21, 2021. There are a total of 20 investors in the company.
The creator coins are intended to be non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital pictures stored on the blockchain and have a fixed, irreproducible physical identity. This allows users to make money from creating and trading these NFTs. One of the more intriguing (or contentious) features of BitClout is that these coins aren't always initiated by the account linked to them.
