Austin Mitchell

Austin Mitchell, Co-founder and CEO of Synota, is an energy veteran, who started his career in academia and then worked in upstream O&G, retail energy, and regulated utilities. Austin holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, and a PhD in Engineering & Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.

Austin's expertise includes energy systems and markets, utilities and regulation, environmental policy, demand forecasting, and risk management. Austin's interest in Bitcoin started in 2018 and at Bitcoin Miami 2021, he was orange-pilled by Greg Foss and the Ibex team. Later in 2021, he co-founded Synota with Alan Schroeder and Lisa Scott, recognizing the innovation at the nexus of Bitcoin and energy and then seeing an opportunity to build a transactive energy solution on the Lightning Network that moves society towards an abundant energy future.
