Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Computing and an MBA, Mr. Cavalcante has dedicated 25 years of his career to the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB). As the Deputy Head of the IT Department and the Chief of the Cybersecurity and Technological Innovation Office, he plays a pivotal role in promoting and collaborating on cybersecurity and technological innovation initiatives within the Brazilian financial system. During his tenure at BCB, he has led research on Blockchain technology and quantum computing, and chaired study groups on Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and Cyber Resilience. Currently, he oversees the Technological and Financial Innovation Lab (LIFT), a fintech accelerator open to all, and an internal program aimed at integrating AI and Machine Learning into BCB’s processes. Mr. Cavalcante is also at the helm of the IT team for the Brazilian CBDC initiative and chairs the Open Finance working group in the BIS Innovation Network. He coordinates IT efforts for Open Finance in Brazil and collaborates with the supervision sector to enhance the cyber resilience of the Brazilian financial system.
