Paul Clement is an American appellate lawyer and founding partner of Clement & Murphy, PLLC, where his practice focuses on Supreme Court, appellate, and strategic litigation. He previously served as the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States and held senior positions in the U.S. Department of Justice. Clement also serves as a Distinguished Lecturer in Law and Government at Georgetown University and as a Senior Fellow at Georgetown Law's Supreme Court Institute. Paul Clement began his legal career through federal judicial clerkships before entering private practice at Kirkland & Ellis and later joining King & Spalding, where he headed the appellate practice. He moved to the U.S. Department of Justice in 2001, serving as Principal Deputy Solicitor General, Acting Solicitor General, and later Solicitor General from 2005 to 2008. He subsequently returned to private practice at King & Spalding, Bancroft and Kirkland & Ellis before co-founding Clement & Murphy in 2022.
